Hacx - The Full Version (v1.1)

Important notes - please read before downloading

Hacx is NOW Freeware!
Hacx is now freeware.  However, there are some limitations.  Before I get to those limitations, there's some important information you should know about version 1.1.

Version 1.1 is actually a throw back to a version "before" the CD version.  What happened was this.  We created the final version of the game.  Then the "powers-that-be" at Banjo thought it would be more "developer" friendly if we changed the texture names we were using to the more commonly known Doom names.  It was a nice thought but in the process, some of the texture references in the game got messed up.  ...and, unfortunately, this messed up version is what made it to the commercially released CD.  So, what you have here is the original version of the game without any of the texture bugs inherent in the CD version ...although the Co-op bugs still exist.

This will obviously cause a problem with existing add-ons for Hacx.  Add-ons made for version 1.0 (the CD version) will have to be modified to work with the new texture names in the new version 1.1.  So, for those of you that have add-ons for the CD version, I suggest you modify them for use with version 1.1 of the game as this new version will obviously become much more widely distributed.  Perhaps someone could develop some conversion tools?

Oh, yeah.  For those that are experiencing Hacx for the first time, Doom 2 version 1.9 is required to play Hacx.  Installation instructions are easy enough.  Unzip the package into any empty temporary directory.  Run the INSTALL program and direct the installation towards your DOOM2 directory.  Then run HACX.

One more thing and then I'll stop boring you to death.  The game contains some TXT files.  These text files are incorporated into the installation package and will appear in your DOOM2 directory.  Some of these text files are outdated.  I've replaced a couple of these files with updated versions.  However, since they are not part of the installation package, they will remain in the temporary directory where you unzipped the original package.  You should transfer these TXT files into your DOOM2 directory and let them overwrite the originals.

Now for the Terms & Conditions

Hacx can now be distributed freely by any site that wishes to host it. Also, any site that wishes to create a distribution area for files, mods, bug fixes, etc., please, feel free to do so.  I'll be glad to link you. Hacx is now a royalty free item. This means that Hacx may NOT be used to generate income of any kind nor can it be used to promote any activity that would generate income.
